Schedule and Gantt Without a Project-Management Degree

Project software has a habit of assuming you went to school for it. Swimlanes, dependencies, critical path, a Gantt that looks like a legal exhibit. A ten-person shop does not need that on a Tuesday. They need to know who is on the Lakeside job this afternoon, and whether Thursday is already full.

That’s why KiwiDock has two views of the same work: a day planner you actually open, and a Gantt you open when a job has more than one moving part.

The Monday view

The scheduler is a day planner. People down the side, hours across the top, jobs on the rows. You can see load without a report. You can see a hole in the afternoon without a meeting. If your shop runs on “who’s on what today,” this is the screen — not a capacity heatmap designed for a PMO.

Who’s doing what today. Drag it onto the week.

We still run KiwiMill on this view. If it were awkward at 7:30am, we would know before you would — because we’d be the ones standing in the shop staring at it.

The Gantt is there. It isn’t the front door.

Some jobs are one person for two days. Some are a model, a revision, a finish, and a ship date that moves when the customer sends a new file. For those, a timeline is the honest picture. KiwiDock’s Gantt is the same projects and the same people, laid out across weeks. You don’t have to live there. You open it when overlap matters.

Same work, on a timeline — useful when two jobs want the same week.

That split is the design philosophy in a sentence: simple until you need more. A one-person shop can ignore the Gantt forever. A fifteen-person team can grow into it without switching tools.

What this is not

This is project-capacity scheduling — who’s working on which job. It is not appointment booking or sending techs to customer sites on a clock. If your business is dispatch and time windows, we aren’t built for that yet, and we’d rather say so than stretch the screenshot.

If the planner is the part you came for, see it in the walkthrough or start a free account and put this week’s jobs on it.
